The Importance of Hiring A Professional Electrician

When I bought my first house, I figured that I could do most of the repairs. After successfully installing a backsplash and replacing some of the carpet, I started focusing on things like electrical work. Unfortunately, the reference guide I was using was outdated, and I was shocked by a new type of cable. That day, I decided that some tasks simply aren't cut out for novice homeowners. I shifted my focus to hiring professional subcontractors, and it made a world of difference. This blog talks about the dangers of doing your own electrical work, and why you should always use a professional.

5 Easy Ways To Lower Your Electric Bill Cost By Next Month

Electricity may make modern life convenient and comfortable, but it does not come without expense. In fact, your electricity bill is likely one of the highest expenses you have in the house when it comes to utilities. If you would like to see those numbers on your bill drop instead of rise as soon as your next power bill, there are at least five changes you should make.

  1. Unplug game systems when they're not in use. - Game systems actually use quite a massive amount of energy. For example, the Playstation3 1st or 2nd generation will use as much as $31.74 per month if it is plugged in and powered for 24 hours a day every day. So, it is a good idea to make sure the game systems you have are turned off when they are not in use.

  2. Start washing your laundry in cold water. - If you wash your laundry in hot water, as much as 90 percent of the energy used goes toward heating the water. So make sure you wash your clothes in cold water as often as you can if you want to see a reduction in the amount of your power bills.

  3. Raise or lower your thermostat setting by a few degrees. - In the winter, drop that heat setting by a degree or two, especially at bedtime or when you're not planning to be at home. In the summer, raise the temp a bit so your AC doesn't kick on as often. Just changing the thermostat's settings by a few degrees will offer you some savings on your power bill.

  4. Switch to energy-efficient light bulbs. - Even though the price you pay for powering lights may not be the biggest chunk of your electricity usage, there is still room to save. So switching to energy efficient LED bulbs will definitely be a good idea.

  5. Lower the temperature setting on your hot water heater. - Hot water heaters are easily one of the most greedy consumers of electric power in the house, especially if you have its thermostat setting at a high level. In fact, most households spend as much as $781 a year just for the electricity needed to heat water.

Even though you may not be quite ready to give up the modern conveniences of electric power, this does not mean there are not ways to save. If you would like to know more about changes you can make to keep your electric bills lower, talk to a residential electrician for more advice.
