The Importance of Hiring A Professional Electrician

When I bought my first house, I figured that I could do most of the repairs. After successfully installing a backsplash and replacing some of the carpet, I started focusing on things like electrical work. Unfortunately, the reference guide I was using was outdated, and I was shocked by a new type of cable. That day, I decided that some tasks simply aren't cut out for novice homeowners. I shifted my focus to hiring professional subcontractors, and it made a world of difference. This blog talks about the dangers of doing your own electrical work, and why you should always use a professional.

Four Ways To Make A DIY Wind Turbine For Renewable Energy For Your Home

If you are tired of paying outrageous rates for electricity, you may want to consider renewable energy with solar or wind power. Solar panels are one of the more popular solutions, but you will not want to rely on solar alone. Wind energy can be another great solution for your energy. There are many turbines that can be made with electrical motors and common materials. Here are a few DIY wind turbine designs that you may want to consider for your home:

1. Creating A Rustic Look With Traditional Windmill Designs

Renewable energy can be incorporated in many different home designs. If you have a home with a rustic look, such as a cabin, a classic windmill can be a great project to make a turbine. You will need to use an electric motor and connect it to the blades of the windmill. This can be done with antique windmills that have a locking hub on them. You will just need to create a mount for the motor and connect it to the hub.

2. Vertical Wind Turbines For A Modern Space Saving Design

Today, wind turbines do not have to be in a classic windmill design. There are also vertical windmills, which can provide you with many advantages. Vertical designs need less space and can perform better than conventional windmills. They can also be less intrusive and have sleek designs that can be installed easily.

3. Create A Windmill With A Modern, Efficient Blade Design

Windmills can also have efficient blade designs. These can include hubs that have as many as 8 blades for optimal performance. There are many plans available for blade designs, or you can buy your blade kits. Using the kits will be a lot easier and make building your wind turbine a simple project to complete. You will just have to mount them to the electric motor and connect everything to some type of stand or tower.

4. Small Windmills To Create Starter DIY Turbine Projects

Larger wind turbine projects can be a lot of work and take trial and error to get everything working right. You may want to start on a smaller scale for testing different design ideas before you to a big project. You can use small electrical motors from things like RC toys and low-voltage appliances to try some of your ideas. When you get the design how you want it, just scale up the size to fit a bigger motor.

These are some DIY wind turbine projects that you may want to try with electric motors. If you have old appliance or equipment with electric motors, consider using them to make a wind turbine. If you need help with the wiring of your system, contact an electrical contractor (such as Hackworth Electric Motors Inc) and ask them to help you with your electric motor repair.
